The all-electric car project is called Blue Car and is still on despite of earlier rumors that the death of Pininfarina’s CEO could have put the end on the project.
It seems that the all-electric car is going very well as the company will be taking orders from next summer. We have no information who is going the sell the Blue Car as Pininfarina has no dealer network.
Pininfarina’s partner Bollore is going far afield in a search for the lithium to power the car’s lithium-polymer batteries, an innovation of the French company. French business publication Usine Nouvelle reports the company is looking at taking an interest in a lithium mine in the Uyuni region of Bolivia.
Company is plaaning to produce 10,000 batteries for the new car each year in the Brittany region of France. The Blue Car battery is targeted to have a 124-mile driving range between charges and is designed to operate for more than 124,000 miles. A full charge will take about five hours, but a five-minute charge will be enough for a 15-mile trip.

Pininfarina and Bollore have both invested about 150 million euros in the 50-50 joint venture, which is responsible for marketing, distribution and sales of the electric car.
The Pininfarina electric car is expected to be priced at more than 15,000 euros, or $23,000 at current exchange rates. This price most likely will not include batteries, which are to be leased. The car will feature battery technology that Bollore has been developing over the past 15 years.
