Toyota working on solar powered green car

According to The Nikkei, Toyota is secretly developing a car that will be powered solely by solar energy. Don’t expect to see the car in the near future as it will be years before the vehicle will be available on the market.

This green car will get some of its power from solar cells equipped on the vehicle that can be recharged with electricity generated from solar panels on the roofs of homes.

The automaker later hopes to develop a model totally powered by solar cells on the vehicle, the newspaper said without citing sources.

Times are tough for Toyota, in December the company announced they will slip into first operating loss in 70 years. Despite bad times, Toyota still wants to remain the leader in green technology and continues environmental research.

Toyota is already using solar panels at its Tsutsami plant in central Japan. These solar panels produce enough electricity to power 500 homes.
