In a brief, two sentence press release, Toyota has announced that they will debut an battery electric vehicle at this years Detroit Auto Show, alongside the all new 2010 Prius model.

Speculation is rife, but like I wrote, details are few and far between. All Toyota would elaborate on is that this is the world debut and that it is a concept vehicle.

The Wall Street Journal is speculating that it could be an electric version of the Toyota iQ, or something along the lines of a city car. “Others” say it could be a direct competitor for the soon to arrive Chevy Volt. Could it be something else altogether, merely a concept to display new technology, perhaps like the A-BAT concept pick-up from a year ago? I, for one, believe this car will be the ground work for a future car designed to compete with the Honda FCX Clarity. Just my humble opinion. Feel free to speculate amongst yourselves.
