Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid debuts in Frankfurt

Toyota has officially unveiled the 2012 model year Prius Plug-in Hybrid at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Visually the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is distinguished by a new front bumper, a revised grille and LED headlights, clear taillights, silver accents and a rear-passenger side charger port. Inside is a new center console, a 6.1-inch infotainment system and a blue-colored shifter. The tunk can hold 443 liters (15.6 cubic feet) of cargo.

Power comes from a 98 hp1.8-liter petrol engine and a 81 hp electric motor that gets its juice from a 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Combined power output is 134 hp, enabling the car to reach 100 km/h on 10.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph).

Purely on electric power it can travel up to 23 km (14 miles) and the estimated fuel consumption is 2.1 L/100km (112 mpg US / 134.5 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of just 49 g/km.

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be launched early 2012 and Toyota expects to sell 50,000 units annually.
