Toyota produced and sold the most vehicles in Canada in the first six months, topping the list of auto makers. Toyota manufactured 135,372 vehicles from January to June, while General Motors came in second at 134,205 and Chrysler got the fifth position at 103,623.
One of the reasons for Toyota’s rise was the closure of GM and Chrysler plants in north America. Toyota president Ray Tanguay admitting to the problematic times faced by auto makers said, “The focus for Toyota is really not to be biggest, but to be the best for our customers. We are all in a tough market and Toyota is faced with the same difficulties as the rest of the industry.”
The shakedown in the industry caused by big auto makers facing mounting losses and even bankruptcy has benefited the Japanese car makers.
