Toyota has spare capacity in its European plants and wants to utilize it to the fullest. Hence it is contemplating making Mercedes-Benz’s (DAIGn.DE) A-Class and B-Class cars on its own so-called MC platform.
The company feels that if Daimler would enter the picture, then development costs would reduce and they could even consider jointly making the Lexus LS flagship luxury saloon and its Mercedes counterpart, the S-Class. The joint venture would benefit both companies.
Officials at Toyota refused to confirm or deny the news saying that they regularly talked to other car makers and Daimler said the news was pure speculation.
