We reported yesterday that Toyota has suspended sales of selected vehicles in US and is recalling already effected sold models because of sticking accelerator pedals.
Now Toyota has also confirmed that recall is expanded outside US and includes Europe. There are no details yet how many Toyota models are affected in Europe by that recall.
At the moment all Toyota has said is that the models and exact number of potentially affected vehicles is under investigation. For more details Toyota is encouraging concerned European customers to contact their customer service for more assistance.
So what can happen with the accelerator pedal?
There is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.
In case of occurrence, the driver may notice that the accelerator pedal is progressively harder to depress or is slower to return. A rough or chattered feeling may also be experienced when depressing/releasing the accelerator pedal.
As Toyota has already replaced the effected parts, production will continue in Europe unlike in the US where the production for eight models has been halted.
