This third generation Prius has been completely redeveloped and is a faster and more efficient, power-packed model of the Prius hybrid. Being sold as a 2010 model, it was originally developed as a 2009 one, but is currently on sale with improvements. It uses an improved NiMH battery pack which may later change into a lithium one, making it more environmentally friendly.

In Japan Toyota has already received orders for 75,000 vehicles and it aims to sell 400,000 of these green cars globally. This should put Toyota in a good position, considering that it lost $4.4 billion in the year ending March this year.

Toyota is competing with Ford’s Fusion hybrid for a market share and the battle between the two automakers will bring both into the limelight.

• It has a 1.8L DOHC 16-Valve VVT-i 1.8L Atkinson cycle engine
• The battery efficiency is warranted at 10 years/150,000 miles
• Its Advanced Technology Package includes a Pre-collision system, Lane Keep Assist and Intelligent Parking Assist
• The solar panel roof is used for ventilation and air conditioning
• It will give 50 miles per gallon, or 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers
