Detroit preview: 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is (Video)
Next month at the Detroit International Auto Show, BMW will show the public top of the range 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is. This is the closest thing to a Z4 M, unfortunately for Bimmer fans there won’t be a true M version of the new Z4 as it was with the previous one, all you can do is get the M Sport Package from spring 2010.
The Z4 sDriveis packs 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque 1,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. With the Overboost function torque is increased by another 37 lb-ft. This temporary torque peak of 369 lb-ft gives the car a significant increase in acceleration.
Spy photos: BMW Z4 with M Sport Package
Different sources claim that there won’t be an M version of the all-new BMW Z4 Roadster. If you wan’t more power there are plenty of tuners who can boost the power on your Z4.
If you just care about the looks and want your Roadster to look more aggressive you can count on BMW as from next year they will be offering the M Sport Package for the Z4 range.
Videos: 2010 E89 BMW Z4 (German pricing added)
In addition to all the official details and images, we now have first videos of the new Z4. As you already know by now there will be three engine variants: sDrive23i, sDrive30i and sDrive35i.
The videos below show the sDrive35i driving with open hardtop and closed hardtop. What’s probably most interesting is that BMW has also announced pricing for the new Z4. Even though the prices are for the German market, they give us a good comparison with the previous model.
2010 BMW Z4 officially revealed
After all the spy photos, renderings and leaked brochures, BMW has finally revealed the new Z4. New generation Z4 is the first one with a retractable hardtop. So no more Coupe and Roadster. It’s all in one!
This lightweight aluminum shell construction opens and closes in just 20 seconds. New Z4 has a longer hood, larger wheel arches and sits on a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. Making its premiere in the new Z4 is the latest generation of iDrive. In the new Z4 the iDrive serves to activate all entertainment, information, navigation and telecommunication functions.
2010 BMW Z4 with less disguise and more details
As we have seen on previous spy shots new Z4 is following in the footsteps of its 3-Series Convertible big brother, plus its Mercedes SLK rival, with a retractable steel top
And the convertible has another trick up its sleeve. BMW isn’t content with raining on the SLK’s parade, as it will seek to outgun the Porsche Boxster with a new range of powerful engines for the car. These are likely to include the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder unit.

Artist rendering: 2009 BMW Z4
Just few days ago we showed you spy photos of the 2009 BMW Z4 wearing swirl-patterned vinyl wrapped camo. Now artist Jon Sibal has created a rendering based on the recent spy photos what the 2009 BMW E89 Z4 might look like once officially introduced.
Like the previous renderings he has analyzed all the details and we are pretty sure that the actual production model is very similar to the one Jon has created.
Next BMW Z4 spotted with an open top
New Z4 will share its platform with the current 3-series and will also likely get most of the engine variants from there including the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 from the 335i. Rumor is that the Z4 will also get a diesel engine.
Upcoming Z4 has been inspired by the CS Concept. It has a wider grille giving it a wider overall look.
It will get a soft-top just like the current one. Rumor is that it will also get a fully retractable hard top to better compete with Mercedes-Benz SLK.
G-POWER G4 3.0i EVO III based on BMW Z4 3.0i
300 km/h top speed, 0-100 km/h in just 4,9 seconds, 375 hp and an engine’s peak torque of 420 Nm: These are the characteristics of the latest G-POWER development for the BMW Z4 3.0i.
In addition to the increase in power output of 144 hp for the 6- cylinder engine, that normally produces 231 hp, the G-POWER offers a complete tuning program for the Bavarian roadster consisting of: Aerodynamic body kit, light-alloy wheels, suspension modifications, high-performance brake system and exclusive interior components.

New 2010 BMW Z4 will have a folding hardtop

The new Z4 is expected to offer a choice of more powerful engines. Riding on the latest 3-Series chassis, it may use the same range of four- and six-cylinder engines. The base engine in the U.S. will likely be BMW’s 3.0-liter straight six, with a twin-turbo option.
Britain’s AutoExpress expects a diesel engine for the first time, too, and a new M version with the 4.0-liter V-8 from the M3. Stop/start powertrains should help it reduce its carbon footprint, whatever that is.
