Geneva 2010: New Volkswagen CrossPolo
In addition the the sporty Polo GTI, VW will show the next generation CrossPolo at the Geneva Show in early March.
The CrossPolo comes with refreshingly cheeky design, unique world of colors and a higher ride height (15 millimeter gain). The CrossPolo is produced only as a five-door hatchback.
178 horsepower Volkswagen Polo GTI unveiled
Volkswagen has unveiled the new Polo GTI ahead of its world debut in Geneva. This little hot hatch is the fastest and cleanest performance Polo yet produced.
The original performance variant of the Polo was unveiled in 1986 with 111 horsepower. Now 24 years later the new Polo GTI comes with a supercharged 1.4-litre TSI engine that produces 178 hp at 6,200 rpm and 184 lbs ft of torque from 2,000 rpm.
Three all-new special edition Volkswagens now available
Volkswagen of America has announced that three all-new 2010 special edition models are now available in dealer showrooms. The CC R-Line, Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition, and New Beetle Red Rock Edition.
New CC R-Line comes outfitted with a number of visual enhancements for a decidedly sporty look. A body kit with side skirts, new front bumper, including an integrated chin spoiler, special 18-inch “Mallory” wheels, R-Line badges on the front fenders, and smoked taillamps complete the exterior upgrades.
2011 Volkswagen Tourareg debuts with hybrid drive and high-tech range of engines
Volkswagen is unveiling the completely redeveloped Touareg, which is 208 kilograms lighter and 20 percent more fuel efficient that the outgoing model.
According to Volkswagen it is the most technically innovative “VW” since the brand has been in existence. With petrol engines it has a fuel consumption value of just 8.2 liters fuel per 100 kilometers.
VW intends to overtake Toyota - 10 million sales by 2018 is new goal
Toyota is in a big safety issue fiasco with their accelerator pedal recall. Different automakers like GM and Ford see it as an opportunity to increase their sales, while Toyota’s biggest competitor Volkswagen is setting long-term goals to overtake Toyota as the world’s largest automaker.
Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, said it plans to increase sales to more than 10 million vehicles by 2018 as it seeks to dethrone Japan’s Toyota.
Volkswagen Passat CC now available as a five-seater
The Passat CC has been available so far only as a four seater, from now on it is also available with an optional new rear bench that turns it into a five-seater.
This new option is added in response to requests by many customers to give the Passat CC even greater everyday utility by adding a seating position. The new rear bench fulfils all necessary safety aspects and comes with third head restraint and three-point seat belt at the centre position.
Volkswagen Defends “Dakar” Title With 1-2-3 Finish, Carlos Sainz wins the race
Volkswagen has won the legendary Dakar Rally for the second time in succession and including 1980 for a third time. Their TDI powered Race Touareg’s celebrated a one-two-three podium lockout at the finish of the toughest challenge worldwide in motorsport.
Carlos Sainz(with the co-driver Lucas Cruz) who is already a two-time World Rally Champion won the race by only 2 minutes 12 seconds ahead of his team mates Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Q/D) in a thrilling finale on the closing 202 kilometre sprint on the 14th and final rally day.
Detroit 2010: Volkswagen Compact Coupe Concept
Volkswagen is showing a new Compact Coupe Concept at the Detroit Auto Show. There are no details about the platform, but very liekly it is based on the same platform as Golf/Jetta and is already referred as Golf/Jetta Coupe.
Compact Coupe is a full hybrid combining a 150 hp TSI engine with a 27 horsepower electric motor and a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox.
Volkswagen and Suzuki establishing a long-term partnership
It is no secret that Volkswagen is doing the best to become the world’s biggest automaker. Just yesterday we reported about a big stake they bough in Porsche AG.
Now Volkswagen has announced about a new partnership with Suzuki Motor Corporation. Two companies have reached a common understanding to establish a close longterm strategic partnership.
VW announces 2010 New Beetle Coupe Convertible Final Editions
Before the next-generation Beetle arrives sometimes in 2012, VW is releasing a New Beetle and New Beetle convertible Final Editions.
The Final Edition will be available in U.S. dealer showrooms beginning in the Spring of 2010. Production is limited to 1,500 units each.
On the outside, the Final Editions come dressed in special Aquarius Blue paint with a painted black roof on the coupe, and a two-tone Aquarius Blue and Campanella White paint scheme with a white top on the convertible.
Volkswagen Up! Lite Concept debuts at the Los Angeles Auto Show
Volkswagen claims that the Up! Lite Concept is the world’s most fuel-efficient four seater. It consumes just 2.44 l/100 km on the highway (70 mpg).
The Up! Lite Concept is based on the future new small family from Volkswagen. There are two power sources, a 2-cylinder 0.8-liter TDI engine with 51 hp at 4,000 rpm. Second one is a 14 hp electric motor getting the power from a lithium-ion battery. Combined power output is 65 horsepower.
New Volkswagen Beetle coming in 2012
The original Beetle was built between 1938-2003 and in total an amazing 21,529,464 cars were built. The so called New Beetle debuted in 1998 and has never really been a huge success.
Surely the concept is different compared to the original Beetle, which was cheap and very plain. New Beetle on the other hand has been more of a trend car and not on the cheap side.
Spy shots: 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R20T
Earlier this morning the hottest version of the Scirocco was spotted outside of the Nürburgring. We saw the concept version already at last year’s Bologna Motor Show. Now VW engineers are performing final tests on this 265 horsepower hot hatch.
On this test mule we can already see the new front bumper and side skirts.
Porsche trucks are becoming real?
The stock price of Scania has dropped so low down that analysts actually believe that the deal could become reality. It’s even lower now than the low-ball offering price made by Porsche.
Porsche had to make an offer to buy Scania – the big truck company from Sweden. Because Porsche owns VW and VW owns 69% of Scania and the Swedish government required Porsche to make on offer.
