Bentley celebrates 50 years of V8 engine

American automakers are not the only ones who have been making V8 engines for decades. Bentley introduced the first V8 engine 50 years ago in the iconic Bentley S2 Continental.

Today Bentley’s V8 engine continues to power the company’s powerful, flagship luxury motor cars including the 530bhp Bentley Brooklands coupe, the Arnage and Azure convertible models in 2009.

Of course the engine first built in 1959 has been improved by generations of Bentley engineers.

LS9 6.3L V8 ZR1 motor in the Camaro - a tasty prospect!

The engine produces a staggering 638 horsepower (476 kW) and 604 lb.-ft. of torque (819 Nm). Crate engines are popular across the world as this allows flexibility among the enthusiasts in the tuner-society.

Many creative petrol-heads would love to get their hands dirty while they play with their tool boxes in their garages. Any car nut would jump at the prospect of being able to lay his hands on a sorted motor that would prove to be a worthy enough for his application. Many crate engines have been used on the same lines in various applications such as classic ‘Vettes, street rods, muscle cars and ‘shoebox’ Chevys.

Chevrolet unveils the new Camaro

2010 Chevrolet CamaroChevrolet today revealed the new production Camaro, a heritage-inspired sports car for the 21st century, combining great looks and performance, advanced technology and surprising efficiency. Sales in the United States will begin in the first quarter of 2009. The European launch will follow later.

The rear-wheel-drive Camaro comes with two engine options - a V6 and a V8 engine for the SS sports version.

Artist impression: Cobra Venom V8

Cobra Venom V8
AC Cobra was a true supercar at the time it was made in the 60s and still is. With the V8 engine and a light body it was more powerful and faster than most of the cars made during that time.

Unfortunately it was not a financial success for the company and after Carroll Shelby discontinued the relationship with the company the production also ended for the AC Cobra.

2009 Cadillac CTS-V certified at 564 hp

As final testing of the limited-edition 2009 CTS-V nears completion, the results suggest that Cadillac’s upcoming sports sedan is entering the stratosphere of the world’s highest-performing cars. Cadillac announces that the all-new 2009 CTS-V, with its supercharged 6.2-liter LSA engine, has achieved a DIN-certified peak output of 564 horsepower (415 kW) at 6100 rpm and 747 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm.
The acceleration times are believed to be the fastest for any V-8-powered sedan currently in production: 0-100 km/h in only 4.2 seconds and the CTS-V covers the quarter-mile in 12 seconds at 188 km/h.

GM releases details on 4.5L Duramax turbo-diesel V8

There is a strong competition in diesel-powered half-tons, today General Motors revealed more details on its 4.5L Duramax turbo-diesel V8.

PONTIAC, Mich. - General Motors Corp.’s revolutionary new 4.5L V-8 Duramax turbo-diesel, which makes its debut in Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light duty trucks in the 2010 model year, is compact, powerful and fuel-efficient. The engine also is lighter, an important consideration in the competitive light truck market, because it was designed with more than 70 fewer parts.

The new dual-overhead cam, four-valve V-8 diesel engine boasts a number of innovative design approaches that have enabled its compact size and mass, including integral aluminum cylinder head exhaust manifolds, integral cam cover intake manifolds and a narrow V-angle block.
