Tesla Motors on David Letterman Show

2388544563_4a6f88fa57_bElon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors, the rather popular electric sports car manufacture out of California, US, was on David Letterman last night to promote the new Tesla Model S sedan.

Letterman is a big car guy, most notably having his name on the Rahal Letterman Racing team that puts a BMW M3 GTR in Le Mans Series and other racing series.

520 Tesla Model S electric sedans reserved in first week

Tesla Model SLast week Tesla unveiled the all electric Model S. This electric sedan seats five adults and has a range of 300 miles (482 km).

Now according to Tesla they received 520 orders in the first week for this $49,900(after $7,500 tax credit) electric sedan.

Tesla Model STesla Motors has definitely had a rough start, but finally their production of the sporty Roadster is picking up and they will be delivering over 100 cars a month. So far they have delivered a total of 300 cars.

Despite all the problems Tesla has successfully finished production version of their second electric car Model S.

Tesla Motors releases Model S teaser, hopes to be profitable by mid year

Tesla Model SEarly morning today Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk sent out a newsletter with some very interesting news.

According to Elon they will unveil the Model S on March 26th and as a teaser have released a partly covered side view of the Model S. Production is expected to start in 2011.

Tesla Motors introduces Roadster Sport, 0-60 mph in 3.7 sec

Tesla Motors has delivered so far about 150 Roadsters to its customers, about 1,100 people are on the waiting list for that all-electric sports car that starts at $109,000 U.S. dollars. Tesla Roadster reaches 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Today Tesla Motors introduced a Sport version of the Roadster that delivers 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and starts at $128,500 in the United States and €112,000 (excluding VAT) in Europe. Deliveries begin in late June.

Tesla Roadster crashes at 100 kph!

Back in July Tesla Roadster #6 got into an accident right after the owner had taken the delivery. The car had minor damages and was very likely repaired soon after.

Only 60 Tesla Roadsters have been delivered to their owners so far. What we have here is another Tesla Roadster, that got into an accident in southern France on October 29th, when the sales director took the car into a turn at 100 kilometers per hour. The road was wet with a very bad visibility.

Tesla Motors secures $40 million in financing

Last month Tesla Motors had to cut 25% of its work force as it was unable to secure a $100 million investment round. Failure to raise more money has also slowed down work on their second all-electric car  “Model S”, which is a four door sedan.

Just last week company reported that it needed the money to become cash flow positive, and that it was going to get $20 million as early as this week. Yesterday they got $40 million in the form of convertible debt from current investors. The company’s investors include Larry Page, Sergey Brin, CEO Elon Musk, and a few VC firms.

Tesla Roadster gets a new Gearbox

Tesla RoadsterSo far Tesla has delivered 27 electric Roadsters. Now Tesla Motors Inc. has selected BorgWarner Inc. for the production of a single-speed gearbox for the Tesla Roadster and is initiating a ramped-up production rate.

New gearbox won’t be called version 2.0 but instead Powertrain 1.5. Sounds ike a software update, but actually is a powertrain update in a Silicon Valley way.
