Last Pontiac rolls off the assembly line in Orion Township, Michigan
Pontiac brand is history. Launched in 1926 at the New York Auto Show as a companion to GM’s Oakland division, Pontiac is/was the third best-selling automobile line of all time in the United States, behind Chevrolet and Ford.
Unfortunately for Pontiac fans, General Motors decided to phase out the brand in April as part of bailout orchestrated by the U.S. government. Last U.S. built Pontiac rolled off the assembly line yesterday in Orion Township around 12:45 pm.
Official: GM kills Pontiac, will focus on four brands
Last week we reported that GM might kill the Pontiac brand. Now it is official as General Motors has released details about the viability plan that has no room for the Pontiac brand.
According to the press release GM will focus on four brands in the U.S - Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.
GM kills Pontiac brand next week?
Inside Line reports that next week on Monday General Motors will announce a new reorganization plan, which will very likely mean the end for the Pontiac brand.
We are not surprised at all. Current Pontiac line-up is just too weak and there is no reason for GM to burn money with it.
Pontiac G8 ST sport truck cancelled!
We were looking forward to the G8 ST sport truck. Pontiac even showed us G8 ST Concept at last year’s SEMA to get everyone excited for the G8 ST production model.
The G8 ST concept was powered by a uniquely configured 6.0L small-block V-8, rated at 361 hp. Production version of the G8 ST was known to hit the dealerships this fall as a 2010 model. Unfortunately GM has decided to cancel the G8 ST. According to PickupTucks.com GM made the announcement to its dealers during a broadcast yesterday morning.
SEMA 2008: Pontiac G8 ST Concept
The G8 ST will be available in late 2009 as a 2010 model. To ramp up the excitement for the production model, Pontiac will show a G8 ST Concept at this year’s SEMA.
The G8 ST concept is powered by a uniquely configured 6.0L small-block V-8, rated at 361 horsepower (269 kW) and 385 lb.-ft. of torque (522 Nm). It features GM’s Active Fuel Management technology, which allows the engine to switch from V-8 power to four-cylinder operation during light-load driving conditions, enhancing fuel economy. The transmission is a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic.
SEMA 2008: Pontiac G8 GXP Street Concept
Both the Pontiac G8 GXP and the LSX454 crate engine from GM Performance Parts are new this fall. GM engineers figured there was no better way to highlight them than combining them in an intimidating street machine.
In factory form, the G8 GXP features a 6.2L (376-cu.-in.) V-8 rated at 415 horsepower (309 kW) and 415 lb.-ft. of torque (562 Nm).
G8 GXP Street Concept features the new LSX454 that has 7.4-liters with 638 horsepower (476 kW) and 600 lb.-ft. of torque (813 Nm).
Pontiac names the all new G8 sport truck the “G8 ST”
After sifting through more than 18,000 possibilities, Pontiac has chosen to keep it simple, naming the recently revealed G8 sport truck the “ G8 ST.”
Thousands of fans submitted suggestions during a “Tame the Name” promotion, which delayed a final announcement until each possibility was considered and cleared for possible trademark use.

Pontiac G8 GXP Coupe Concept
DETROIT — If the car enthusiasts within General Motors prevail, Pontiac will further expand its lineup of rear-wheel-drive performance vehicles to include a 400-plus-horsepower V8-powered G8 coupe. Just don’t call it a GTO.
The coupe, which would be based on the Holden Coupe 60 concept the Australian division unveiled recently at the Melbourne auto show, would arrive in showrooms within three years’ time.

Pontiac introduces G8 Sport Truck and wants you to name it!

The G8 sport truck significantly stretches Pontiac’s commitment to style and performance and is expected to arrive in dealers’ showrooms in late 2009.
“Pontiac has never shied away from offering segment-defining vehicles, going back to the original GTO,” said Jim Bunnell, Buick-Pontiac-GMC general manager. “There’s simply nothing else like the G8 sport truck on the road today, and we definitely believe that there are customers who will be excited by its distinctive design, performance and cargo capabilities.”

SEMA 2007: Pontiac G8 GT
Designed for enthusiasts who are passionate about performance, the all-new Pontiac G8 performance sedan – arriving at dealerships in early 2008 – is the first North American application of GM’s new global rear-wheel-drive architecture. The V8-powered G8 GT SEMA Edition was displayed at the ’07 SEMA Show with a host of tuner-inspired custom touches, including a hot orange paint scheme with matching leather seat inserts, door panels and instrument panel pad.
SEMA 2007: Pontiac G8 - 50 Cent/Unique Automotive Edition

2008 Pontiac G8 pricing confirmed

DETROIT - Pontiac today confirmed pricing for its new rear-wheel drive G8 performance sedan will start at $27,595 when it hits the streets in early 2008. The V-8 powered G8 GT will be available for $29,995.
