Chevrolet Volt might be called Opel / Vauxhall Electra in Europe

Opel Flextreme ConeptIt is no secret that GM is planning to sell Chevy Volt in Europe as well. The Opel/Vauxhall version of the Volt will likely be based on the Flextreme concept that was shown at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

GM has not confirmed the design nor its potential name for the EU market. So far it seemed obvious it might be called Opel/Vauxhall Volt.  Now it looks that the car might be called Vauxhall Electra, as GM has applied for a trademark for “Vauxhall Electra” on June 4th 2008.

Europeans will see the Opel badged Volt before Americans

Opel Flextreme ConeptYesterday GM announced all the details on Chevy Volt expect the price and exact dates when the car hits the dealerships. Production is scheduled to begin late 2010 for models in the United States. Earlier GM has confirmed that Volt will be badged as Opel and Vauxhall in Europe.

Now there are some good news for Europeans as GM wants the Opel/Vauxhall to be seen as a technologically advanced brand in Europe.

GM releases new Volt teaser images and a video

Chevy VoltJust recently ABC News got a sneek peak at redesigned Chevrolet Volt. Now GM has released two teaser images of the production Volt and also some pictures of the development process. From the teaser image we can see that Volt gets some sort of LED foglamps.

Chevrolet Volt should be available in 2010. It will also be sold in Europe under Opel and Vauxhall.
