Mini John Cooper Works Cabrio unveiled ahead of Geneva

211 hp from a twin-turbocharged 1.6-liter engineAt the upcoming Geneva Motor Show Mini will introduce the John Cooper Works Cabrio to the public. This open top version features the same high performance engineering modifictions as the hatch model carrying the John Cooper Works badge.

1.6-liter twin-turbocharged engine produces 211 hp and up to 280 Nm peak torque.

John Cooper Works prepared a Mini Convertible for Geneva

mini-john-cooper-works-challenge-1.jpgThe Geneva Motors Show will feature a debut by the Mini Cooper S Convertible John Cooper Works edition, benefiting from almost 50 extra horsepower compared to the standard Mini Cooper S.

JCW tunes the Minis, much alike to Alpina on BMWs, right on the production line. It is easier and much cheaper to the customers. The Convertible JCW Mini has a 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine made out of aluminum not iron, as on previous model.

2009 Mini Cooper Cabrio revealed

BMW has finally released all the details and images of the new 2009 MINI Cooper Cabrio. New MINI Cooper Cabrio will be offered with two versions, MINI Cooper Cabrio and MINI Cooper S Cabrio.

First one is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four cylinder engine that has 120 hp at 6,000 rpm. Top speed is 123 mph (198 km/h), 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) comes in 9.8 seconds. Average fuel consumption is 6.1 liters/100 km (38.5 mpg).

2009 Mini Cooper Convertible spotted with no disguise

We have already brought you the first official images of the 2009 Mini Cooper Convertible that were “leaked” to the web. Here we have the new (R57) MINI Convertible in white with a brown top, that was spotted in Germany with almost no disguise.

New Mini Cooper Convertible will be revealed ot the public at the next Detroit Auto Show. Making it’s debut is a pop-up roll-bar system that will take the place of the current vision robbing set-up. The system will be similar to the one found in the 1 and 3 Series BMWs.

All electric Mini Cooper prototype spotted

All electric Mini CooperIn July we wrote that BMW is working on electric Mini Cooper with a planned production of just 500 cars, that will be put into testing soon. What we have here is the first prototype spotted in Munich.

It looks just like all the other Mini Cooper’s out there except it has a sticker on the rear and sides saying “hybrid erprobungfahrzeug” which translates to hybrid test vehicle. It could be a Mini hybrid as well, but what gives it away being all electric is the fact that there is no exhaust.

HAMANN presents its tuning programme for the current MINI

2008 Hamann Mini CooperFor both, the MINI COOPER S and the MINI COOPER D, HAMANN offers powerful performance increase components by re-programming the serial Motronic. According to the ignition map optimisation, the Diesel-aggregate has 136 hp / 100 kW at 4,000 r.p.m. and a maximum torque of 300 Nm at 1,750 – 2,000 r.p.m. This equals an increase of 26 hp / 20 kW.

The HAMANN technicians achieved an even larger performance boost with the petrol version. Instead of 175 hp / 128 kW, the COOPER S then has sappy 204 hp/ 150 kW at 5,500 r.p.m. and a torque of 300 Nm at 1,600 – 5,000 r.p.m.
