Shelby unveils 2011 GT350 with around 500 hp
Shelby American brings back the legendary Shelby GT350 to its lineup of American performance cars. The supercharged concept version of the Mustang-based 2011 Shelby GT350 twas unveiled at the Barrett-Jackson Auction Opening Night Gala to honor the 45th anniversary of the first GT350 and first Shelby big block Cobra.
Shelby worked with Ford Racing to supercharge the engine with a goal of 500 horsepower, as well as to sharpen the handling.
Ford sweeps North American car and truck of the year awards
At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Ford won the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards for the
2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and the 2010 Ford Transit Connect.
It is the third time in 17 years that one manufacturer has won both awards. “Winning both of these prestigious awards is confirmation that the ONE Ford plan is working, delivering industry-leading products for our customers,” said Mark Fields, president of The Americas.
Detroit 2010: next generation Ford Focus unveiled
Today at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Ford will unveil the next generation Ford Focus.
Both the four-door sedan and five-door hatchback body styles of the next-generation Focus are previewed prior to their production start for Europe and North America late in 2010 and market launch early in 2011.
2011 Ford Fiesta for the U.S. market unveiled
Around the world Ford has sold over 12 million Fiestas over its lifetime. The new 2009 model has sold over half a million units in Europe and Asia.
Americans have been waiting for this small B-segment hatch for a while and finally today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Fiesta is making its U.S. debut.
Ford Fiesta S2000 rally car by M-Sport
This new rally car, the culmination of nine months’ hard work by the design and engineering team at M-Sport, will be Ford’s first global rally car.
Fiesta S2000 can be entered into a variety of events including national rally championships, the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge), and the S2000 World Cup.
Ford will build an all-new Police Interceptor for 2011
Ford has confimed development plans of an all-new Ford Police Interceptor and affirms continued commitment to the police and municipal vehicle businesses.
Ford is the market leader in the law enforcement vehicle segment, selling 45,000 of the 60,000 police vehicles sold in each year in the States.
Video: Ford introduces first inflatable seat belts
Ford is introducing the first inflatable seat belt, which will be first introduced in the next-generation Ford Explorer. This new technology will eventually be in most Ford models around the world.
New seat belts are designed to provide additional protection for rear-seat occupants, often children and older passengers who can be more vulnerable to head, chest and neck injuries.
2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is the most powerful half-ton truck
F-150 SVT Raptor was unveiled about a year ago and it first used the same 5.4-liter V8 engine found in all the F-series trucks. Ford did promise something different for the Raptor and here it is!
The 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is available with an all-new 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 411 horsepower and 434 ft.-lb. of torque, making it the most powerful half-ton truck on the market today.
SEMA 2009: Ford unveils 2010 Cobra Jet Mustang
Last year Ford built a 40th anniversary 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang, which was a huge success. All 50-units were sold in just minutes.
At the SEMA show in Las Vegas Ford has unveiled the 2010 Cobra Jet Mustang, which marks the continued evolution of the CJ as a factory-produced turnkey race car.
In honor of the SEMA introduction, Ford Racing built and unveiled a one-of-a-kind “SEMA Special” silver Cobra Jet complete with a charcoal Cobra Jet graphics package.
SEMA preview: Ford 3-Window Coupe Hot Rod gets a 400 hp EcoBoost engine
When you think of a hot rod you think of a big V8 engines. Ford claims the motto “There’s no replacement for displacement,” is out of date with their EcoBoost™-powered ‘34 Ford hot rod.
Next week at the SEMA Show,Ford Powertrain and Detroit Street Rods are showing the public a 1934 Ford 3-Window EcoBoost Coupe Hot Rod.
This hot rod will be the “first” rear-wheel-drive application of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 delivering an estimated 400 horsepower and 400 ft.-lb. of torque.
Ford officially confirms China’s Geely as its preferred bidder for Volvo
Ford is trying to sell the Swedish Volvo brand and for month’s one of the potential rumored buyers has been China’s Geely.
Today Ford confirmed earlier speculations and named Geely as their preferred bidder for the Volvo brand. That of course does not mean Geely is the final buyer. A lot of things can change during the negotiations.
2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty unveiled
Yes you are reading it right, Ford is already introducing a 2011 model year F-Series Super Duty even though we are still in 2009.
The F-Series has been the best-selling range in its class for the last 32 years and Ford surely has high hopes for the new Super Duty series in the heavy duty truck class.
Surely you have seen folks out there with their Super Duty trucks cruising in the city, but that’s not what this truck is built for.
Automakers report increase in sales
Thanks to the government’s cash for clunkers program many automakers have reported a sudden increase in sales, with August being the best month of the year so far. Due to this program as many as 690,114 new auto sales were reported by the Department of Transportation (at a taxpayer cost of $2.88 billion).
More fuel efficient cars have been sold and many consumers, apart from the auto industry as a whole, have benefited. GM, Ford, Toyota are among the major companies which have reported an increase in sales.
Ford to introduce new line up of cars shortly
Ford is planning to introduce a whole range of new cars – 70 percent to 90 percent will be refreshed. Ford Motor Co.’s chief financial officer Lewis Booth, likening the cars to doughnuts said that (the vehicles) “are going to be the Krispy Kremes of the world.”
By 2014, the average Ford vehicle’s age will be shrunk by 20 percent, he said. Apparently the auto maker is going to reduce its structural costs by $14-15 billion and new vehicle costs will also come down. It will also make more cars. Though it is making 345,000 vehicles currently, it is targeting 680,000 within five years.
Ford sales boosted thanks to cash for clunkers program
Apart from other automakers, Ford received a boost in sales thanks to the US government’s cash for clunkers program. Ford, GM and Chrysler together sold 47 percent of all vehicles sold under this program.
Ford is the only one of the big three who has not applied for bankruptcy. Even though the auto maker had not posted any sale increase in two years, it has finally reported and increase in sales. The figures speak for themselves.
