At the 2010 North American International Auto Show will be a special area for electric vehicles and technologies called Electric Avenue.

Tesco to provide facilities for charging electric cars

Britain’s retailers have woken up to the fact that usage of electric cars is on the rise. Tesco, the supermarket chain, is all geared up to provide charging facilities to electric cars, starting from its store in London. If the project is successful, it will be started in its other outlets as well.

Would you buy an Apple car? 21 % of Europeans would!

AppleElectric cars seem to be the future as almost every big automaker has introduced an electric car concept by now and has plans for actual production. Some of the companies like Tesla Motors are already delivering first models to their customers.

So far auto execs have not been too sure would there be enough demand to justify the massive ramp-up cost. Now a recent study by consultant Bain & Co suggests there is a real market for electric cars.

All-electric Aptera 2e promised for October

All-electric Aptera 2eYesterday Aptera Motors rolled out the first-pre-production model of the 2e. It is an all-electric three-wheeled two-seater that has a 100 mile range on a charge (equivalent to 200 mpg).

This three year old California startup is founded by Steve Fambro and main investors are Google, Idelab, Esenjay Explorations CEO Michael Johnson and few others.

SSC Ultimate Aero EV, 200 mile range from a 10 minute charge

2009 SSC Ultimate AeroShelby Supercars is the company behind a 1287 hp Ultimate Aero. Now it looks that SSC is the next company that believes in electric cars as they are going to unveil a new innovative all-electric powertrain in the current Ultimate Aero in the second quarter of this year.

SSC claims that their new technology  will set a new standard in the electric car industry - one of 10 minute recharges, super horsepower and ranges of up to 200 miles per charge.

Ford planning new electric, hybrid & plug-in vehicles

Car-manufacturers act as if they’ve found a magic pill from the world crisis. Everyone is talking about electric hybrids like it is the only choice for humans.

Now Ford joins this hysteria by presenting new electric-vehicle plan. This plan is said to include many developments till 2012, launching first vehicle, which is supposed to be a battery electric commercial van in 2010. The main goal is to make battery-powered vehicles run as long as 100 miles (160 km) from charge to charge without any single drop of fuel.

Toyota to debut battery electric vehicle at NAIAS

In a brief, two sentence press release, Toyota has announced that they will debut an battery electric vehicle at this years Detroit Auto Show, alongside the all new 2010 Prius model.

Speculation is rife, but like I wrote, details are few and far between. All Toyota would elaborate on is that this is the world debut and that it is a concept vehicle.

Opel presents Fuel Cell Vehicle Fleet with business partners in Berlin

Nine companies will be the first to operate the GM/Opel HydroGen4 zero emission vehicles in the Berlin area as they go about their regular business: ADAC, Allianz, Coca-Cola, Hilton, Linde, Schindler, Axel Springer, Total and Veolia.

This real-world road test will run under the umbrella of the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP), a German Federal Department for Transport, Building and Urban Development funded project focused on proving the day-to-day suitability of hydrogen as a fuel for road transport.

L.A. Auto Show: Honda FC Sport Design Study

Honda revealed the Honda FC Sport design study model, a hydrogen-powered, three-seat sports car concept, at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The FC Sport emphasizes the design flexibility and potential of Honda’s V Flow fuel cell technology – already deployed in the Honda FCX Clarity sedan – and reconfigures it into a lightweight sports car design with an ultra-low center of gravity, powerful electric motor performance and zero-emissions. The design study concept is inspired by supercar levels of performance through low weight and a high-performance, electrically driven fuel cell powertrain.

All-electric MINI E revealed

2009 Mini EJust a little while ago we brought you spy shots of the all-electric Mini. Now BMW has released all the details and images of the MINI E.

The MINI E will be powered by a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor fed by a high-performance rechargeable lithium-ion battery, transferring its power to the front wheels via a single-stage helical gearbox nearly without a sound and entirely free of emissions.

Specially engineered for automobile use, the battery technology will have a range of more than 240 kilometers, or 150 miles.

Citroën C-Cactus might make it into production

At the Frankfurt Motor Show last year Citroen introduced an electric car concept called C-Cactus. Citroen is now considering launching either small gasoline engine version or diesel-electric hybrid based directly on the concept car. Also all electric version is a possibility.

Considered powerplants include a 1.0-liter gasoline engine, a HYmotion2 hybrid featuring a combustion engine and an electric motor or a 100% electric model with a range of 160 km (100 miles).

Video: Race for the Electric Car

Yesterday CBS 60 Minutes aired a piece called “Race for the Electric Car”. The interview features Elon Musk of Tesla and GM vice chairman Bob Lutz. Musk shows us the car, talks about their customers and lot of other things.

Lutz tells us that GM was inspired by Tesla. He also talks about the software that runs Volt. Also Fisker Karma and Aptera are mentioned. Futuristic Aptera will be available already this winter.
