Nissan to build Leaf electric vehicle also in Sunderland, UK

nissan-leaf-6Nissan’s electric Leaf production in Japan will start end of this year. Production in US will start in 2012 and in addition this zero-emissions electric car will be produced at the company’s Sunderland plant in the UK in 2013.

The Sunderland plant will have a capacity of 50,000 LEAF units per annum. That is surely a big change towards electric future in the auto industry.

UK Police goes green! All-electric Mitsubishi i MiEV joins the force

Police Mitsubishi i MiEVMitsubishi has been testing the all-electric i MiEV in UK for a while now. First full production models will arrive there next month and will hit the road in December.

One of the first ones to use this small electric city car is West Midlands Police. As Mitsubishi says i MiEV will be helping Police Forces across the UK to crack down on crime whilst cracking down on CO2 emissions.

520 Tesla Model S electric sedans reserved in first week

Tesla Model SLast week Tesla unveiled the all electric Model S. This electric sedan seats five adults and has a range of 300 miles (482 km).

Now according to Tesla they received 520 orders in the first week for this $49,900(after $7,500 tax credit) electric sedan.

Tesla Model STesla Motors has definitely had a rough start, but finally their production of the sporty Roadster is picking up and they will be delivering over 100 cars a month. So far they have delivered a total of 300 cars.

Despite all the problems Tesla has successfully finished production version of their second electric car Model S.

BMW announces Megacity hybrid-electric vehicles

Mini EBMW’s Mini E program looks to be a success as over 1,800 people have applied for the lease, which costs $850 a month and will be available to only 450 chosen ones.

Now BMW has confirmed that the company is planning a new line of low zero-emission vehicles called Megacity in the very near future.

Tazzari ZERO EV will arrive beginning of 2010 with a price tag under 20,000 euros

Tazzari ZERO EVIn Italia a new small two-seater electric car named Tazzari ZERO is in development, which will be available beginning of 2010.

ZERO uses Lithium batteries and has a range of up to 88 miles (142km). Power form the electric motor is sent to rear wheels.

Pininfarina BLUECAR debuts at the Geneva Motor Show

Pininfarina BLUECARPininfarina and Bollore joint venture started in 2008. Purpose of the partnership was to build a new electric car. Pininfarina BLUECAR is currently on display at the Geneva Motor Show and is not just a concept, it is a preview for the production model that will debut in 2010.

Pininfarina hopes to sell 60,000 units a year by 2015.

2011 Opel AmperaYesterday GM released a first Opel Ampera teaser. Today GM unveiled the Ampera in Geneva and released more details and images about this extended-range electric car.

For journeys up to 60 km Ampera runs on electricity stored in the 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery, and emits zero CO2.

JJAD working on all-electric P1-E, 0-60 mph in 2.9 secondsJJAD is a company set by former McLaren/Jordan F1 Designer Jim Dowle together with Business Accountant Paul Burnham. Now this British company, which revealed an eye-catching P1 sports car back in February has switched to electric power.

According to JJAD P1-E is destined to be one of the world’s first purpose-built electric sports cars.

NYC gets 10 Mini E electric cars from BMW

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that the city will receive 10 MINI E electric cars on loan from BMW. This comes after the news that he will eliminate 700 cars from the city’s municipal fleet.

The 10 MINI Es will join the New York “Street Condition Observation Unit” (SCOUT) and will be used to locate issues with the road surface like giant cab eating potholes or to locate graffiti spots. NYC will have the 10 cars for one year and they’ll receive some pretty heavy duty real world testing, something that the BMW boys couldn’t simulate otherwise.

SEAT presents its electric car project to Spanish government

SEAT is quite a small Spanish company that belongs to Volkswagen and is not very well known outside Europe. They have a line-up consisting of 7 models, most of which are based on VW’s platforms except for the latest sedan Exeo, which in it’s turn is nothing else as a slightly-restyled previous-generation Audi A4 sedan.

This week SEAT presented their first hybrid model prototype named Leon Twin Drive Ecomotive.
