Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport back after 15 year break

2010 Corvette Grand SportLast time Chevrolet offered the Grand Sport version of the Corvette was in 1996, which marked the end of C4 era. All 1,000 units were painted Admiral Blue and featured a white center stripe and red “hash mark” graphics on the left front fender.

Now Corvette Grand Sport is back as a C6 era version.

This time things are different as Dutch based Ugur Sahin Design has partnered with well known Corvette tuner Mallet Cars to produce the exclusive Mallet Z03.

Chevrolet Corvette GT1 Championship Edition debuts at Sebring 12-hour race

2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Edition On Friday Chevrolet introduced the limited production GT1 Championship Edition Corvettes at the Sebring International Raceway.

This special model limited to 600 units marks Corvette Racing’s successful 10 year run in the American Le Mans series.

Chicago 2009: Transformer’s Corvette Stingray Concept breaks cover

Transformer's Corvette Stingray ConceptYesterday at the Chicago Auto Show GM revealed the Corvette Stingray Concept, which will be featured along four other Chevy based characters in the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

In the movie Corvette Stingray Concept takes the form of a robot called Sideswipe. New Transformer will hit local theaters from June 26th.

Hennessey’s supercharger Pulley & Blower Snout upgrade increases boost from 11 to 14 psi. Other upgrades include: intercooler, K&N air filter, re-programmed engine management computer, stainless steel 1 7/8 inch headers and high flow catalytic converters with mid pipes.

Clarkson’s car of the year revealed!

It’s that time of the year again when it snows, the bells jingle and Clarkson speaks out! BBC Top Gear anchor, Jeremy Clarkson made a list of all the cars he felt were worthy to be tagged with the label, the ‘car of the year’ right from the gorgeous and ridiculously expensive Rolls Royce Phantom Drop Head to the adorably cuddly Fiat 500.

Cars like the BMW X6, the Chrysler Sebring Convertible and the Kia Sedona people carrier didn’t go down too well with Clarkson for various reasons. Even the Audi RS6 found its way into his bad books for being thoroughly ‘impractical’ and the drawbacks one would face in real life.

Czech Republic’s Innotech Chevrolet Corvette

Thou the American automotive industry is currently in a very unpleasant situation, even with the recent emergency funding from President Bush, we can’t help but ‘worrying’ that the automakers everyone ‘hated’ so much would spell the very disaster of some amazing American cars the world loved so much.

Most notably, the Chevrolet Corvette, which would most befit as the epitome of American car engineering at its finest, with power and handling that even outperforms some of the European thoroughbreds. But are supercars just about performance?

Video: Jay Leno introduces his 2009 Corvette ZR1

This should not be a surprise that Jay Leno has a Corvette section in his garage. Now when the most powerful Corvette is out, it is obvious that Mr. Leno gets one.

He just does not get one of the ZR1’s, he gets the first one. As always the most interesting part is when he takes his new car out on the road. Once on the road you can hear the amazing sound of the ZR1, while Jay shares his thoughts on the most powerful Corvette ever. Funniest part is when Jay says: ….. it’s a Chevy, you fix it with a hammer:)

4-door Corvette convertible for sale on Ebay

Corvette is not a family car. You can cruise it with your girlfriend or a friend. Gene Swatek who has four girls thought the Corvette should be a car the whole family can enjoy.

He took a 1987 Corvette Convertible, cut it in half and made his own steel extension frame members to stretch the Corvette an additional 38 inches.

The rear suicide doors were added as well as the rear leather seats and custom ground effects. The front door opens first, then the rear door can be unlatched from a lever mounted on the frame rail.

Rendered speculation: C3R based on the C6 Corvette

Christian Cyrulewski is the man behind the C3R. He has merged two of his favorite Corvettes, the 1969 Corvette Stingray and the C6 corvette. Retro looking C3 Stingray with today’s supercar performance. Not bad at all.

C3R is a Third Generation (C3) Retro Corvette Stingray which is based on the Sixth Generation (C6) platform. What makes this project different from lot of other renderings, is that he is actually planning to build the car and if it draws enough attention he would be offering it as a kit version. We will keep you updated once Christian offers more details. Below you will find the C3R images in different body colors. Stay tuned!

GM will cut Corvette production

Corvette Z06Last time GM had to cut Corvette production was in the mid-nineties. Now with the whole economy down GM will halt production of the iconic sports car next month to lessen supplies during this so-called automotive downturn.

Corvette’s production will be cut by an estimated 20-30 cars per day and layoffs will effect up to 9% of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant’s workforce.
