BMW confirms future plans to build FWD models
BMW, the Ultimate Driving Machine is all about rear wheel drive, with few models also with all-wheel drive mode. Looks like some of the future models are going to get also a front-wheel drive.
At the Annual Accounts Press Conference for 2010, Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW said: …we will launch more MINI and BMW models and variants – also in the small car segment. This segment is expected to grow further. And we will take advantage of this opportunity. We are exploring the possibility of developing a joint architecture for the front and four-wheel drive systems of these cars.
BMW M division introduces: BMW M Bike
The BMW M Bike is a spectacular combination of state-of-the-art technology and exclusive design. This special limited edition bike will be available in June 2010 at select BMW dealers and online at www.bmw-shop.com.
The BMW M Bike’s saddle is made from the highest quality leather with a red inlay. The built-in Shimano SLX gear system is light and sturdy. The Manitou Match suspension fork on the front wheel is incredibly durable and the disc brakes make for a clean stop.
2011 BMW 5-Series Touring unveiled
New BMW 5-Series Touring has been unveiled ahead of its world debut at the Leipzig Motor Show. Don’t expect to see it at next month’s New York Auto Show as the touring version of the new 5-Series very likely won’t be sold in the States.
Basically it is the same car as the recently revealed 5-Series Sedan, with just tons of more space. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 560 litres. If desired, an increase in capacity to a maximum of 1,670 litres is guaranteed by 40 : 20 : 40 split folding rear seats.
2011 BMX X5 Facelift unveiled
Here are the first details about the facelifted X5, which will make its debut at the New York Auto Show in April.
Facelifted X5 features minor cosmetical changes like new bumpers(relocated fog lights on the front), new body-color accents, new wheels, and redesigned taillights.
BMW announces pricing for 2011 BMW ALPINA B7 in North America
We already know that for some unknown reasons BMW won’t be building the M7, so the closest thing to an M7 from BMW is Alpina B7, which will go on sale in North America this spring.
This luxury high-performance sedan is not cheap. Pricing starts from $122,875 for the standard wheelbase model and $126,775 for the extended wheelbase model.
BMW announces refreshed 2011 3-Series Coupe and Convertible
Next generation 3-Series is expected to make its debut earliest this fall, before that BMW has released the final facelift of the current generation Coupe and Convertible.
The 2011 3 Series Coupe and Convertible models will go on sale in Spring 2010, and pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
Detroit preview: BMW ActiveE Concept
Next month’s Detroit Auto Show is proably the greenest one ever, with plenty of electric conceps from almost every automaker. BMW is bringing a new concept called ActiveE that is based on the 1-Series Coupe.
The BMW ActiveE Concept is the second EV to come from the company’s project i, following the all electric MINI E, which is already on the road(limited units and leased to chosen customers).
AC Schnitzer BMW 123d police package
“Only serious, safe tuning will bring the hoped-for driving pleasure!” Under this motto, the Association of German Car Tuners (VDAT) every year launches a special concept car.
This year’s car is a BMW 123d Coupe that has been modified by AC Schnitzer. 204 horsepower twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel is tuned to 241 horsepower.
2010 BMW 5-Series (Video and Photos)
New 5-Series(F10) is here in its full glory, replacing the current E60, that has been on the market since 2003. Compared to the current model it is longer and also more elegant, though still keeping part of the aggressiveness that the E60 introduced.
New 5er sedan will be offered first with one eight-cylinder and three six-cylinder petrol engines. Diesel engines are two you can choose from. Sometimes during the 2010 summer a direct injection four-cylinder turbodiesel will be offered as well.
Video: 2010 BMW M3 GTS on the track
Last week BMW M-Divison unveiled the track oriented M3 GTS. This hardcore Bimmer has 450 horsepower from a naturally aspirated 4.4-liter V8, making it just as powerful as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
It is stripped to the essentials, weighing just 1490 kg (190 kg less than the stock M3 Coupe). All you can find inside is roll cage, bucket seats, emergency cut-off switch, and fire extinguisher.
2010 BMW 5 Series kinetic sculpture trailer
BMW teases the new 5 Series sedan, using the kinetic sculpture from the BMW Museum to create the silhouette of the car.
BMW promises that the new 5er will be revealed on November 23rd, 8 pm CET when the kinetic sculpture trailer is replaced by a live-stream of the unveiling ceremony.
According to BMW the new 5 Series Sedan is the synonym for aesthetics and Driving Pleasure in the premium middlerange segment.
BMW reveals track oriented M3 GTS
No more speculations. New hard core M3 is not GT, GT4 or CSL as different reports suggested. The car is called M3 GTS and is the most extreme M3 ever.
This ultimate track oriented M3 uses a 4.4-liter V8 that produces 450 horsepower (same as the Porsche GT3 RS). Power is sent to rear wheels through 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Spy photos: BMW Z4 with M Sport Package
Different sources claim that there won’t be an M version of the all-new BMW Z4 Roadster. If you wan’t more power there are plenty of tuners who can boost the power on your Z4.
If you just care about the looks and want your Roadster to look more aggressive you can count on BMW as from next year they will be offering the M Sport Package for the Z4 range.
One-off BMW M5 CSL packs 580 horsepower
Yesterday BMW revealed a one-off BMW M5 CSL at Nürburgring to celebrate 25 years of M5. The cas is based on the current generation M5 and is described by M division’s head of development, Albert Biermann, as “the M5 CSL we never built”.
Displacement on the 5.0-liter V10 has been increased to 5.5 liters. No word on the official performance numbers, but Mr. Biermann hints at around 580 horsepower and near 400 lb-ft of torque. Stock M5 for comparison has 507 hp.
