Geneva 2010: Audi A8 hybrid concept
Little A1 E-tron is not the only electrifying Audi in Geneva. Audi also presents there A8 hybrid as a technology concept.
A8 Hybrid features two propulsion units – a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor that develop a total output of 245 hp and 480 Nm of torque. Basically V6 power in a four cylinder engine.
This hybrid system enables the Audi A8 accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.6 seconds and to achieve a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph).
Geneva 2010: Audi A1 e-Tron
Audi’s e-tron model series is growing and here is the second model called A1 e-Tron. The Audi A1 e-tron is a Mega City Vehicle with an innovative drive technology.
It comes equipped with an electric motor for zero-emission driving in the city combined with internal combustion engine on board that recharges the battery in exceptional circumstances. Very similar system that is found in the Chevy Volt.
Audi RS5 unveiled ahead of Geneva debut
Watch out BMW M3! Developed by quattro GmbH, the RS5 model joins the RS6 and TT RS. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8, which is a close relative of the V10 that powers the high-performance R8 sports car.
The 4.2 FSI provides imposing torque and is right at home even at high revs – almost like a race engine. The engine delivers 450 hp at 8,250 rpm and between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm transmits a maximum of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) of torque.
Sales target for the upcoming Audi A1 is 80,000 units in its first full year
Audi A1 will make its official debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Before the official launch Audi has released some interesting details about the first premium car in the subcompact segment.
“The subcompact segment is forecast to grow in Europe by the year 2015 - in Germany alone growth of 30 percent is anticipated. We’re currently expecting to sell 80,000 units of the A1 in its first full year,” says Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG.
Audi has big plans, invests 7.3 billion to compete better with BMW and Mercedes-Benz
This year Audi expects to sell about 925,000 vehicles worldwide, BMW is aiming for 1.02 million units and Mercedes for 950,000 units. So Audi is right behind and with their new 7.3 billion euros total investment from 2009 through 2012 they are surely going to put on a good fight to pass both domestic competitors.
Around 5.9 billion from the total investment will go for new products and future technologies. Audi plans to increase number of models from 34 now to 42 in 2015.
Audi e-tron limited to just 1000 units, goes on sale in 2012
Audi has released more details about the upcoming all-electric sports car e-tron. Production of this premium class electric sports car will be limited to just 1000 examples and it will go on sale already in 2012.
No pricing details have been released yet, but it is known that it will cost more than the R8. Achim Badstubner, Audi’s head of exterior design said that e-tron will be made to order and in case there’s not enough demand it can easily stop the production.
Report: Audi A1 will debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show
Premium small car segment is currently ruled by the MINI. Audi has big plans in this small car segment with the new A1, that will be shown to the public next March at the Geneva Motor Show.
Sales are expected to start later in the summer and as with other Audi models there will be many different body variants(3 door, 5 door and a cabrio).
Audi TT-RS modified by Avus Performance packs 460 horsepower
Audi’s little street rocket TT-RS comes with 340 horsepower, which is enough to take it from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited at 155 mph.
German tuner Avus Performance is taking its performance to the R8 territory, by modifying the turbo, ECU software and the exhaust. Numbers are impressive! 460 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque.
Audi combines start-stop function with S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission
Todays keyword in the auto industry is fuel efficiency. Automakers are looking into green technologies and are also improving current ones so that new models could get a better gas mileage than the previous one.
Audi has announced that from November A3 1.6 TDI and 1.4 TFSI models equipped with the new S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission come with the engine start-stop system.
Audi e-tron concept heading into production
Audi showed the e-tron concept at last month’s Frankfurt Motor Show. This all-electric sports car concept has four electric motors, one at each wheel producing together 313 horsepower and just unbelievable 4,500 Nm (3,319.03 lb-ft) of torque.
With electric motors at each wheel it is a true future quattro. e-tron concept weighs 1,600 kg (2,527 lbs) and accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0 – 62 mph) in 4.8 seconds. Range from a 53 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is 248 km (154 miles).
Audi A5 prototype with aluminum and carbon fiber construction
There is no denying that when it comes to cars and weight less is more. Audi is well known for their aluminum bodies as they have built over 550,000 models with an aluminum body since 1994.
Currently Audi uses aluminum architecture on the A8, R8 and TT. Looks like the A5 is next as Audi has released details about an A5 prototype that is over 100 kg (242 lbs) lighter than the standard steel-bodied model.
Audi’s new diesel cars
Audi has a new A3 line up of cars which will be using the 1.6 liter TDI diesel engines. These engines which are 90 hp have a fuel economy of 52.3 mpg and bigger 105 hp engine which gives a fuel economy of 57.4 mpg. The lower hp model reaches speeds of 62 mph in 12.9 seconds and also has slightly higher carbon dioxide emissions.
Audi’s new models

Audi has got an impressive line-up of new models of its cars. There is the RS5 which will be available as a coupe and cabrio, the A5 sportback (pictured), and the redesigned A8. The RS5 will have a powerful 4.2-liter V8 engine of 450 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque and reaching 0-60 time in the mid-four-second range. PPI RAZOR GTR based on the Audi R8
PPI RAZOR GTR is the most extreme version of the Audi R8 we have ever seen. With specially engineered supercharger it has 580hp / 427 kW at 7,400 rpm and maximum torque of 600 Nm at 6,200 rpm.
Compared to the stock R8 it is 250 kg lighter (stock R8 weighs 1,580 kg). Weight savings are possible thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber.
Audi promotes “Intelligent Emotion” project at Munich University of Applied Sciences
Audi supports design students at Munich University of Applied Sciences and their “Intelligent Emotion” project.
Students were aided by Audi to develop visionary ideas for the mobility of the future. A total of eleven concepts were done from hybrid supercar to lightweight design of interiors.
