Japanese automakers are getting ready for next month’s Tokyo Motor Show and are releasing details about new debuts almost daily.

Subaru is presenting there a WRX STI Carbon based on the Impreza STI A-Line model.

Details are scarce, but we know that the car features carbon fiber roof to achieve both a significant weight reduction and a lower center of gravity. That’s not a bad thing. Carbon fiber looks good and cuts weight.

What we don’t understand is the choice of transmission. Subaru only offers it a 5-speed automatic(from the Legacy). No manual for this Impreza! That seems just wrong. It is an Impreza we are talking about.

Subaru says that automatic transmission offers distinctive driving performance to a wider range of customers. To say the least we are just very skeptical.

We like the idea of cutting weight, we would also like to see it with more power and of course with a manual transmission.
