Next month at the Tokyo Motor Show Subaru will show a green concept called Hybrid Tourer. This concept uses three different power sources to move the car.
First one is a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine that sends power to the front wheels. Then a 10 kW electric motor on the front is mated to the gasoline engine and is used when accelerating uphill. On other times it works as a power generator charging the lithium ion battery pack.
During acceleration another electric motor(20 kW) on the rear kicks in whenever maximum power is required.
As the car has no driveshaft it has a flat floor on the rear offering extra room for the back passengers. The design features big wing doors on both sides and open glass areas which make the luxurious cabin quite bright on a sunny day.
Even though this concept will probably never make it into production, it is very likely that we’ll see the technologies used in future Subarus.
