Spy shots: Ferrari working on Dino or..?

Could it be that Ferrari is working on another small sports car in addition to the recently introduced 460 hp California?

At first it looks like 599 GTB, but as Bernhard pointed out it has a shortened wheelbase. It can be the California mule again, but why would Ferrari still have it driving around if the car has been introduced months ago already?

Perhaps there is another small Ferrari in works?

Um, hate to burst your bubble, but that’s a 599 GTB Fiorano. Ferrari’s already been making it for years. But you guys are right, that’s not a California.

  • admin says:

    Nojo

A+. you are very likely right.

  • Bernhard says:

In fact it’s a shortened 599 GTB, a mule for the California. It’s been driving around for years…

  • GH Pixx says:

Why Ferrari is still driving around with that car? Because it´s not Ferrari who´s driving it, it´s BOSCH. And they just need that mule for the electronic systems like ABS, ESP…. and so they can still use that old thing. The development never stops….. it´s a never ending process.

  • Wesley says:

Well, I think this is a mule for a new small ferrari. But it can also be a Ferrari 599 barchetta mule (or isn’t that possible?)

  • Peter says:

    to: Wesley

Thats what i am thinking. They already have the platform. So little modifications to the California and they could sell another cheaper Ferrari.

  • GH Pixx says:

Did you all forget about these pictures? http://www.egmcartech.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/spy_shots_ferrari_dino_carmagazine.jpg

That´s the same sort of testcar just with some white tape and a little different exhaust and it was a mule for the California.
I have no idea why the photographer just shot that car right now, cause that thing is driving around in that area for a looooong time. Obviously he needs a story….

  • Wesley says:

The only way to know if this ferrari is the same ferrari you must know the license plate of this Ferrari. But we can’t see that License Plate. But you said that this ferrari is driving around for long time, you have a photo? So show it! (my english is not good, because I’m dutch)

  • GH Pixx says:

Bosch cars always have german red numberplates and they change them of course. But why do we need a number plate? Open your eyes and you´ll see that is is the same car! And I of course have no photo of it, because I am a professionell carspy and I do not burn myself for a car like that. Just belief it or not, but I saw that car several month ago at the same place.

  • Peter says:

Why would Bosch drive a Ferrari test mule?

and GH Pixx if you have better stuff why dont you show?

  • Wesley says:

I’m also a carspy (not professional). I still don’t what it is. But GH pixx, you can be right. But why do they still test with this mule? Opel is also testing with the Opel Insignia Mule. I saw that car in August at the Grossglockner. But why are they do that. Thats one thing I don’t understand. Can you explain?

  • Peter says:

    BTW.

Perhaps Ferrari will have a special edition of the California as a coupe?

  • Wesley says:

No I don’t think. Then would this be mule a modified Ferrari California.

  • Wesley says:

I mean, this mule would be based on a Ferrari California, if this is a special edition

  • GH Pixx says:

    @ Peter

Alot of stories you can find here are mine and those of my colleagues.

    @ Wesley

I know who you are. I saw you standing around at the ring with your father….

    @ all

Opel is still driving around (even today) with those Insignia mules. And so does Bosch. These cars are expansive and especially Ferrari does not have so many test cars. And the results they need they can also get with those cars, and that´s the reason why they still have and use it.

  • Peter says:

    exactly.

they made the special edition of the Scuderia.(SPider) So a special edition California probable makes more sense. Perhaps a more powerful racing/track version?

  • Wesley says:

@GH Pixx, Thats possible. But when did you saw me? Witch month?

  • Wesley says:

And how do you know that that was me!?! Did you heard my father called me? And now i’m thinking, did you saw me, when the LP560-4 and Aston DBS came? Because I saw somebody with a huge camera!

  • GH Pixx says:

It´s on me to know and on you to find out… Now I need to go to work.

  • Wesley says:

well, i think that it was another Wesley because this year i was alone when i was at the ring. Or maybe a friend…

  • Bernhard says:

    @Wesley:
Normally there are several carspies at the ring. So there is more than just one person you could have seen with a huge camera…

and btw: ghpixx is right. Why should Ferrari or their suppliers destroy their prototypes (or in this case:test-mules) when they can use them for their actual development work in the same way they would use finished cars?

  • Wesley says:

@Bernhard, I know. But he said that he saw me around the ring, and the only carspy I saw was when the DBS and LP560-4 came.

  • TONY says:

You are all wrong. Its not a mule but another pure bred stallion. Mc Laren make mules! TONY1

  • Wesley says:

Yeah right. You know it better then a carspy? I don’t think so…

  • Andrus says:

Good discussion and big thanks to GH Pixx for his thoughts.
This is how it is likely.

But as always with that kind of pics we cant be 100% sure as there is no way Ferrari would comment it.

  • Zster says:

Are you guys pretending to be stupid, or are you really stupid? Don’t you know anything about spy cars? Can’t you see it could be a new ferrari disguised to look like the 599GTB? The difference is in the air vents behind the B-pillars. Watch and see who’s correct you bunch of stupids!

  • Babez says:

Are there any new details, so we maybe will know which Ferrari this could be?
