Spy shots: 2011 Opel Meriva SUV prototype

Next-generation Opel Meriva with new flexdoor system(Opel’s version of suicide doors) will debut in September at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Now we have proof that Opel engineers are also working on a SUV version of the Meriva.

This prototype was spotted in Germany and should go on sale beginning of 2011.

Meriva SUV will feature the same type of rear (suicide) doors as the standard MPV version. The prototype spotted wears body of the current generation that sits on the next generation chassis.

Compared to the standard Meriva it will have a higher clearance and a wider track. It will be offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive.

Engines will be shared with the standard Meriva and will include a range of diesel and gasoline units. Don’t get confused by the ugly look of prototype. Production version should be very similar to the new standard Meriva with just bigger wheel arches, roof rails and different bumpers.
