SLK’s main competitor is the BMW Z4, which just got a huge make over. Now we have proof that Mercedes is not waiting to see how the new Z4 sells as it is working on the next generation SLK.
These first pictures reveal us that the next generation SLK will be getting LED daylights, also mirrors are moved to the side of the door(very likely a temporary move).
Front grille is bigger and similar to the one we have seen on the upcoming SLC Gullwing. Of course the car keeps the current retractable hard top. Design wise we expect new SLK to be more sportier than its predecessor.
New SLK will be introduced earliest in 2010 and in addition to the gasoline engines there will be a diesel option as well.
The new diesel under consideration is the 2.2L 4-cylinder twin-turbo recently launched in the Mercedes-Benz C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Prime Edition. This engine produces, with its 2.2 liters of displacement, 150 kW / 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
Some rumors are even talking about a hybrid version and a Gullwing version of the new SLK. Stay tuned for more details!
