Volkswagen Pickup TruckFew years ago Volkswagen entered the SUV market with Touareg, now it seems they have a pickup truck coming out that might be called Robust. This test truck was seen in Germany by our spy photographers. It appears to be a mid-size quad-cap pickup truck with a short bed.

With pickup sales declining in most parts of the world and rising gas prices it sure sounds like a risky business. What will power that new truck? Most likely current diesel engine line that is in the Touareg.

This is not the first time VW introduces a pickup truck. In 1989 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles introduced a 1 tonne pickup, called Volkswagen Taro, to complement the half tonne Caddy pickup panel van ranges, and the 1 tonne Transporter van and chassis cab ranges. Taro was actually a redisigned Toyota Hilux and Caddy pickup was just a VW Caddy with a pickup bed. Transporter was just the Van with a bed behind the cabin.
So this is the first time for VW to work on an actual pickup truck.

After the introduction of Touareg VW had another concept called new Taro, which basically was a Touareg with a very short bed. That car neved made it into production.

Looking at the pictures it seems that the new pickup is quite production ready and hopefully we will hear some official information from VW soon.
