Production of the current generation BMW 5-Series (E60) will reportedly end this year and the next-generation 5er should go on sale next spring. Top of the line M5 today is powered by a 5.0-liter V10 that produces 507 horsepower.
With next generation 5-Series also comes the next generation M5, that has been spotted testing on the famous Nürburgring.
This high performance sedans will very likely drop the V10 and use the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 found in the X6 M with around 550 horsepower.
Reportedly new 5-Series is about 100 mm longer than the current model, but because of new lightweight materials it won’t weigh more.
These latest spy photos show us a quad-exhaust pipes and camouflaged front end hiding big air intakes. The car does look longer and sleeker compared to the current M5. Official debut is very likely next spring or early summer.
When launched it will go against the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG (525 hp), Audi RS6 (570 hp) and Cadillac CTS-V (564 hp).
