Porsche PanameraBack in April we reported that Porsche is working on a 928 successor. 928 was a front-engined rear wheel drive model that was produced between 1978-1995. In 1978 it won the European Car of the Year title.

928 was never available as a cabriolet, but that does not mean its successor can’t be.

According to Automotive News, Porsche is already working on the two-door Panamera Cabriolet, which will cost about 11,000 euros ($16,000) more than the Panamera sedan, which retails for 94,575 euros in Germany,

“We have a broad range of 14 derivatives of the 911 that are very successful,” development chief Wolfgang Duerheimer told Automobilwoche. “So it stands to reason we should diversify the lineup for the Panamera as well.”

If these news are correct it is strange that Porsche is introducing a cabriolet version of the Panamera before the Coupe. Usually it is the other way around.

As Volkswagen now owns Porsche we expect them to use this platform on other luxury models like next-generation Bentley Continental GT and perhaps even a four-door Lamborghini.
