Porsche is considering a diesel Boxster

No one believed few years ago that Porsche would be building SUVs and four door sedans. We already have the Cayenne and Panamera is just around the corner. Those of you who follow news daily are already well aware that from February one can buy the Cayenne with a diesel engine.

Very likely the next Porsche to get a diesel engine is the next-generation Boxster. A diesel powered Porsche Boxster?! Sounds crazy at first, but makes sense.

From next year Audi will offer TT Coupe and Roadster with 2.0 TDI engines. This four-cylinder TDI offers 170 hp, while the average fule consumption is just 5.3 liters/100 km (44.38 mpg). Rumor is that next-generation Mercedes-SLK will also be offered with a diesel engine. It is very likely that the new BMW Z4 gets a diesel as well. So if everyone does it why shouldn’t Porsche?

Latest rumor is that next-generation Porsche Boxster will be using Volkswagen-Audi sourced 2.0-liter diesel that develops 204 hp. As Porsche is already testing the next generation Boxster, then we are very likely to see it already end of 2011 or beginning of 2012.
