We have been hearing news about Nissan’s launching a new zero emission vehicles soon and targeting a growing market. Now it has officially launched its new offering, LEAF which is going on sale in the US, Japan and Europe next year.
This C-segment car is powered by an electric motor and lithium-ion battery packs. Nissan says it will be able to drive 100 miles on a single charge. The best part about this car will be that it will be 80 percent charged in less than half an hour with a special charger. Alternatively, using a normal charger it will take eight hours to charge.
The sub-compact car uses lithium-ion battery packs rated at 80kW/280Nm, (107-hp and 207 ft-lbs of torque). According to LEAF product boss Masato Inoue, “Our car had to be the world’s first, medium-sized, practical EV that motorists could afford and would want to use every day. And that’s what we’ve created. The styling will identify not only Nissan LEAF but also the owner as a participant in the new era of zero-emission mobility.”
The first cars will be made in its plant in Japan and later in Tennessee in the US. Price is expected to be in the range of $20,000 or thereabouts.
