Various details of the up-coming BMW 1-series have met the magnet of UK Car magazine which has obtained information that the baby BMW will get a smaller, 1.3-liter and more efficient petrol engine to play with.
The 1.3-liter engine will widen the gap between the model names and the actual capacities of the engines used. So it will be both the 116i and 118i that shall have the convenience of the new tiny power plant. The 116i will get 136 hp and the 118i 184 hp.
120i shows 218 hp and 130i gives you 272 hp. The M1 is still questionable but you will have the liberty of purchasing a 300 hp twin-turbo petrol with a 3-liter engine instead. Diesel-heads will like the 150 hp 118d, 120d with 184 hp and the very good indeed 123d with 211 hp. Car says the future sees also a plug-in hybrid and an electric modification. Along with the optional 7-speed dual-clutch transmission the car will have a standard sic-speed manual.
Some crazy rumor has also been flying around in the office that the specialists in BMW started to convert the new 1-series into a front-wheel-drive unit, but fortunately let the thought go. So the new 1-series is still RWD and has all the same old body styles we have already gotten used to. It is possible that a three-door shooting brake will join the show after some time.
