These are the first crystal-clear shots of the next-generation Porsche 911 – internally called the 998 – that will replace the current model in 2011.
Few days ago we reported that this here (same car, but from a farther distance in heavy rain) was the new 911 Turbo, but on these pictures you can see that the side air-intakes in front of the rear wheels are fakes – and so is the huge rear wing which hides the shape of the smaller spoiler of the standard 911s.
Compared to the current model, the front lights are standing more upright and the side mirrors have moved from the side window corner to the side of the door(Porsche is using the same mirrors on the prototype as it had years ago on the production versions of 968 and 993) Don’t get confused by the rear lights as these are just temporary. The next-generation 911 will feature the same flat-six engine that surely gets a power boost and the new PDK dual-clutch gearbox.

new 911 ??? where ? i cannot see it ..
i think the porsche managment team needs to be changed ,those guys are the lasiet ppl ever in the industry ,changing the angle of the head lights ,does it qualify it to be called the NEW porsche ? guess not .
it is more like the old 911 the 1996 model ,the interior is more like an audi TT ,very lousy finishing .
I understand that 911 is the PORSCHE, but Id like to see more changes on the future 911.
changes from 996 to 997 were quit big. Lets hope 998 brings more changes as well.
A camo for this new 911 is not necessary. Nobody will notice this is the next gen 911 if there is no camo.
watch it carefully is it just me or the real thing? the rear side of the car is bit longer than previous 911 turbo series? its tail and bumper were even futher from the wheel base! mid engine everyone?
My GOD, You guys don’t really think that this Camo is showing all specs of the further design, do you?
If you does: PLEASE watch the pics of the earliest Panamera prototypes: Have you seen that the head-and Taillights are taken from other cars or suppliers because the new ones didn’t exist? The small details make the differences!! Believe me: The next Generation 911 is a beauty
agree with you insider. If Porsche replaces these lights, spoiler with something totally new it could be interesting and still a 911.
and vrian why would Porsche make thw 911 mid engine?
They already have cayman and boxster…
there would be no point at all in making a mid engine 911. The most amazing, interesting part is the rear engine engineering.
porsche make subtle changes to the 911. its huge change will be the pdk gearbox.
The 911 is like a shark. It’s been around for millions of years, with small evolutionary changes year by year. It’s the best killing machine out there. There is no need for change just for the sake of change.
I was talking about the 911.
