Ahead of it’s public debut, Mini shows off its latest version of its convertible. Building off the popularity of not only it’s previous cabrio, but the marque in general, Mini claims to have improved “design, quality, handling, performance, efficiency and functionality.”

The Mini convertible debuts alongside the all electric Mini E at the NAIAS this week in Detroit. With the addition of these two models, Mini has quickly grown to a four-model range, with the Cooper, the convertible, the Clubman, and the E.

Mini is highlighting an all-new automatic sliding roof, allowing the driver to operate the top at speeds up to 20mph, and a electromechanical roll bar in the event of a rollover. Paired with run-flat tires, tire-pressure monitors, and a new driving stability system, BMW and Mini are obviously putting as much emphasis on safety as they are on driving enjoyment.

Mini is updating the engines for the cabrio as well, with output at 118HP for the base and 172hp for the S model, thanks to a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection. Both engines have features to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. The new Mini convertible begins shipping March 28, just in time for springtime motoring. The prices are $24,550 and $27,450 for the S.
