Melkus RS 2000Melkus marque was founded by the race driver Heinz Melkus in Dresden, East Germany. Only road going car the company has produced was Melkus RS 1000, which was powered by a mid-mounted Wartburg 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine.

Only 101 car were made and the company stopped making cars in 1986.

It was a very unique car with gullwing doors. Engines were either 992 cc or 1200 cc.

Now Melkus is back with a new model called RS 2000. It has gullwing doors just like the first Melkus. Production will be limited to just 25 units a year with sales starting in November.

Melkus RS 2000 rides on aluminum chassis, body is made of carbon fiber to keep the weight down. This means the car weighs less than 1,000 kg (2204 lbs).

Currently there is no information on the powertrain, but rumor is that power will come either from Volkswagen or Opel sourced engine. Company has promised to release more details this summer. Stay tuned for more!
