The Frankfurt Motor Show will see the new Mazda concept car dubbed the MX-5 Superlight, the car is supposed to be environmentally friendly as well as have increased performance. While Mazda denies that this car will ever be produced – it does not even have windshield – the technology of the car can certainly be used for the Miata, which is the production version of the MX-5.
It is entirely possible that the refreshed 2011 model year MX-5 Miata could get a downsized gas engine, maybe with a turbocharger and direct injection. The Superlight will concentrate on improved fuel efficiency, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and enhanced driving performance. Though diesel and hybrid engines are possible they may not make it because of their weight.
