mini-john-cooper-works-challenge-1.jpgThe Geneva Motors Show will feature a debut by the Mini Cooper S Convertible John Cooper Works edition, benefiting from almost 50 extra horsepower compared to the standard Mini Cooper S.

JCW tunes the Minis, much alike to Alpina on BMWs, right on the production line. It is easier and much cheaper to the customers. The Convertible JCW Mini has a 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine made out of aluminum not iron, as on previous model.

The aluminum power plant is good for 211 hp which is 39 hp up from the Cooper S’ 172 hp. JCW uses their own pistons in the engine and a new housing for the turbocharger. They also provide the Convertible with an electronic locking diff.

On the outside we can see bigger, 17- or 18-inch wheels, large dual pipes on the back to produce a sportier grumble. And of course a all-around body kit. The JCW Convertible will cost about $34.000.
