Hyundai, the Korean car maker, is planning to make an aggressive foray into the hybrid car market in the US for the first time. The Blue Will concept car, which was shown at the Seoul Motor Show early this year, will form the base for this new sporty plug-in electric model.
The new car will be probably be powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline direct-injected power plant and 100kw electric motor with a continuously variable transmission just like the Blue-Will. The car reportedly has a range of 38 miles in EV mode and an overall rating of 55 mpg when the gas engine is in operation.
The car should hit the market in 2012, competing with the Chevrolet Volt and Toyota’s plug in Prius hybrid. Americans will be spoilt for choice if they are going green in their auto buying.
