GM has said it will be making use of assembly lines that have been out of operation back into use to manufacture small cars for its market in the US.
Without going into any specific details about the cars or where in the country it will actually develop them, it has stressed the need to take advantage of growing demand for smaller cars in America, something that has seen a strong trend in recent times as opposed to the gas guzzling big units. It also hinted they will focus on fuel-efficient electric models.
This is also part of the company’s attempts at manufacturing more of its cars in the country instead of shifting production overseas when the cars themselves are to be developed for the home market.
This is again good news for the company which had made 10s of thousands of people redundant as a result of its struggles in recent times. Unfortunately, this will all be done, now seemingly inevitably, not as a proud independent entity but as a part government owned company.
