Yesterday in Moscow, former motor racer, musician and a TV host Nikolai Fomenko presented the first Russian (super)car Marussia.
This is most likely the stupidest name for a (super)car we have ever heard. Actually we are not too sure should it be called a supercar or another “Russian miracle” that looks promising to Russians but never makes it in the real world.
According mr. Fomenko the body is made of new materials(such as carbon fiber )making the production cheaper and easier. He compares the body of the car with a cell phone, in the future you should be able to buy a new body and change it, just like you can change cell phone covers. Has anyone seen cell phones made in Russia?
Power comes from a 3.5-liter V6(found in Renault/Nissan cars) that has two power levels: 240 hp and 298 hp.
This rear-wheel drive “supercar” weighs just 950 kg ((2094 lbs) and accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5-seconds while the top speed is over 250 km/h (155 miles). These numbers surely are not tested in real life.
Marussia comes with an audio system, three LCD screens, wireless high-speed Internet access, AC, bluetooth and three video cameras. One of these cameras will record everything that’s happening around the car - for insurance companies. Looks like they have serious issues with security in Russia.
If all goes as planned then first cars should be on the Russian streets already next year. In the future they plan an electric version of the Marussia and other body types.
Production plans are even crazier than the car itself. Eventually they plan to produce as many cars a year as Lamborghini does. That equals about 2800 units a year.
If the car really makes it into production then don’t expect to see it outside of Russia. We are 99% sure that it would never pass EU or US crash/safety tests.
There is also a sports car called Lada Revolution, that Russians are working on.

Design isnt anything original. Exterior actually looks good, but the interior is horrible.
marussia - could stand for “MA” + “RUSSIA” meaning “Mother Russia”… wow a patriotic Russian supercar!!
And good luck for them!
I really dont get why the article has to be so scornful of the car. Ya…its called Marussia…whats the joke there?…Why wouldnt it pass NA/EU crash tests?…any solid evidence to pint that out?…and what makes yous say they may have not tested the car and then given the figures?…
Its one thing to be a critic…and another to be an ignorant tongue!…
By the way, I am no Russian…but I do know some history…and it perfectly states that the Russians rode to space on their “Super”Rocket and then only did the “nauts” in NA even dream about one…hell same with the “super”bomb!…only the NAians were ignorant enough to use it.
So stop being I-m-better-than-you joker…and write some real stuff!…
What an ignorant and infantile article. Obviously the author thinks it’s universally funny to criticize anything Russian. Reminds me of the Air Warfare books of the 80’s that criticized the Soviet air force as backward and deficient. Then the Berlin wall came down & all of hack journalists the found out that the Russian jets far outclassed the American equivalents & were much cheaper. I for one hope this car is a success. It looks great.
