Auto Motor und Sport has managed to get first photos and sketches of the next generation Opel/Vauxhall Astra. This new model will debut in September at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
Five-door hatchback should go on sale end of this year. Bigger Estate and sporty GTC will follow in 2010.
New Astra uses similar design language as the all-new Insignia. Overall design is much sportier and dynamic compared to the current generation.
Astra will be built on the new GM’s Delta platform with front-wheel-drive. Same platform is used by Chevrolet Cruze and the upcoming Volt.
Gasoline engines will start with a naturally aspirated 1.4-liter unit that develops 90 horsepower and comes with stop/start technology for better fuel economy. Turbocharged version of that engine will be available as well with around 180 horsepower.
Diesel fans can choose from a 1.7-liter turbocharged unit with 110 horsepower.
No information yet whether Astra makes it to the States under the Saturn brand.
