Next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volvo will show an all-electric C30 prototype. This is a complete battery electric car with a range of 150 km (93 miles).
Volvo’s next step forward is to build a test fleet of at least 50 electric C30s, which will be used in real-life traffic from 2011.
Maximum power from the engine is 82 kW (111 hp). 0 - 100 km/h comes in 10.5 seconds while top speed is 130km/h (81 mph).
The 280kg (617 lbs) lithium-ion batteries can be fully charged from a household power socket in about 8 hours.
The test fleet that will have at least 50 units will be given to selected parties to be used as real-life prototypes from 2011. Very likely Volvo will use the same model as Mini does with their all electric E.
