After going through bankruptcy protection Chrysler had initially limited its product liability claims acceptance, but now it has broadened the scope. It has agreed to accept product related lawsuits and claims from consumers involved in accidents even with regard to cars manufactured by the earlier company.
John Bozzella, Chrysler’s senior vice president for external affairs and public policy, said the company is confident “that the future viability of the company will not be threatened if we accept these claims.”
This is in part due the many claims and public outcry against the automaker’s original stance that it would not accept claims related to vehicles sold before its asset sale to the Fiat group. Consumer groups are happy with this decision, but also feel the company could do more.
