2010 Green Car of the Year finalists announced
Green Car Journal has announced five finalists for the 2010 Green Car of the Year. Even though we are talking about electric cars almost daily there is no such car in the list. Why? There are plenty of concepts, but very few cars that are actually in production today.
2010 Green Car of the Year has 3 hybrids and two diesels in the list. Honda Insight, Mercury Milan Hybrid, Toyota Prius, Audi A3 TDI and Volkswagen Golf TDI.
Toyota is planning a hybrid version of the RAV4
On Wednesday at an industry conference in Shanghai, Toyota’s managing officer Mr. Koei Saga said that Toyota is planning to produce a hybrid version of the RAV4 SUV.
No exact dates were given, but as Toyota plans to introduce 10 new hybrids globally by 2012 we expect RAV4 Hybrid to hit U.S. dealerships by 2011.
Mercedes-Benz ML 450 hybrid debuts at the New York Auto Show
ML 450 hybrid was first shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show back in 2007. Mercedes had some problems with the batteries beginning of 2008, which slowed down the launch of ML450.
Just a reminder that the problem was not technical, company called Cobasys refused to start the production for some strange reasons(Cobasys is owned by Chevron).

Decade ago American Bob Scumacher set a land speed record for a wind-powered vehicle. For 10 years Richard Jenkins has been trying to break that record.
Last Thursday Mr. Jenkins succeeded and managed to break the current record with a speed of 126.1 mph (202 km/h) on his Ecotricity Greenbird.
Hyundai Blue-Will HND-4 plug-in hybrid concept preview
Next week at the Seoul Motor Show Hyundai will debut its latest concept car called Blue-Will HND-4. The HND-4 is a plug-in hybrid car, power comes from the 1.6-liter four cylinder engine with 154 horsepower that is mated to an electric motor.
Electric engine gets its power from lithium polymer battery packs.
President Obama Announces $2.4 billion for next generation electric vehicles
Yesterday at the Edison Electric Vehicle Technical Center in California, President Obama talked about his vision for green transport and a green economy.
He said that over the next three years, we will double this nation’s supply of renewable energy.
Lightning Hybrids LH4 promises 100 mpg and 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds
The Progressive Automotive X Price offers $10 million prize for a company that can build a super-efficient, super-clean car people would actually buy.
One of the contenders is Lightning Hybrids and their LH4 that will make its debut next month at the Denver Auto Show.
2010 Honda Insight prices start at $19,800
Honda has announced U.S. prices for the all new Insight that goes on sale March 24. Suggested retail price is $19,800 for the Insight LX.
Insight is a five-passenger, five-door hybrid that is powered by and Integrated Motor Assist system comprised of a 1.3-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine and a 10-kw electric motor.
Frazer-Nash Namir by Giugiaro debuts in Geneva
Frazer-Nash is a British sports and racing car maker that was founded in 1923. Their last car was made back in 1950s.
Today successor firm to Frazer-Nash is developing electric drivetrains for hybrid cars and mass transit systems. For example they have developed the Voltec drivetrain for Chevy Volt.
Volkswagen Touareg V6 TSI Hybrid comes in 2010
In addition to the gasoline and diesel versions, VW will offer the next generation of the Touareg with a gasoline hybrid version too. First prototypes are already in testing.
Power comes from a 333 hp supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque at 3000 rpm. This engine is connected to an electric motor that adds another 52 hp and 300 Nm (221-lb-ft) of torque. This E-motor gets its power from a 228-volt nickel metal-hydride battery pack.
2010 BMW X6 Hybrid winter testing in Sweden
First X6 Hybrid pictures last summer showed the car with a huge scoop on the hood.
Today’s pictures from the snowy Sweden show the car with no disguise with a lightly bulged hood. Looks like X6 Hybrid is production ready and should be available at your local dealership already this year.
Bentley goes green - biofuel supercar coming to Geneva
At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Bentley will reveal a biofuel supercar. Details are scarce, but according to Bentley it will be the fastest and most powerful production Bentley ever.
Recently released GTC Speed has 600 hp, so something more powerful looks to be very interesting. And who said that horsepower war is over?
Third generation Toyota Prius debuts at the Detroit Auto Show
Toyota Prius first entered the market in 1997 as the world’s first mass-produced hybrid. Second generation Prius was introduced in 2004 and since then more than 670,000 have been sold in the States, worldwide more than a million.
Earlier today Toyota presented the third generation Prius at the Detroit Auto Show. New Prius is built on a new platform and consumes just 4.5 liters per 100 km ( 50 mpg). For comparison first generation Prius got 41 mpg, and the second generation 46 mpg.

2010 Lexus HS 250h revealed at Detroit Auto Show
Today at the Detroit Auto Show Lexus revealed the 2010 HS 250h. It is world’s first dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle and the fourth and most fuel-efficient hybrid under Lexus brand. Being the first in its class it lacks direct competition.
Lexus positions HS 250h between the IS luxury sport sedan and the EX luxury sedan. Equipped with Lexus’ first four-cylinder gas engine, the 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle powerplant is part of the latest Lexus Hybrid Drive System, which generates 187 hp.

Chrysler bringing 4-Seat Dodge EV to Detroit
Rumor has it that Chrysler could be bringing a new Dodge EV to the Detroit Auto Show. While details are still sketchy, we’ve been told that it will be a new four seat model based off of a Lotus platform.
It’s likely that the new Dodge EV will be based on the Lotus Evora and will feature more than just a badge swap this time around, though we’re not sure how much of a re-style it’ll receive.
