With an estimated 255 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, a six-speed manual transmission and an advanced, adaptive all-wheel-drive system, the Buick Regal GS show car is a high-performance version of the brand’s newest sport sedan.
Public debut is next week at the 2010 North American International Auto Show.
Buick Excelle GT debuts at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China
Even though Buick does not sell very well in its home country, it is actually top-selling premium brand in China. Yesterday Shanghai GM debuted an all-new Excelle XT at the Guangzhou Auto Show yesterday.
This five door sedan/hatch is based on the Opel Astra and will be Buick’s new entry-level model in China.
Engine choices include three lightweight powertrains that offer high specific power output, low fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions:
- A high-output 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 180 hp.
- A naturally aspirated 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine with a two-stage variable intake manifold that delivers 116 horsepower.
- A 1.8-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder gasoline engine with double continuous variable cam phasing (DCVCP) that delivers 138 horsepower.
A six-speed automatic transmission is standard in all models.
2011 Buick Regal unveiled, comes with only four-cylinder engines
Buick is trying to change its image from old people’s car to something more refreshing and for the younger generation.
With the new Regal it looks like they are at the right direction. Based on the same Epsilon II platform as the recently redesigned LaCrosse, but the wheelbase is four inches shorter and overall lenghth is 6.7 inches shorter.
Buick’s Avant concept
Buick’s Avant concept is a car for the luxury market, but down sized in every way. The concept envisages doors that can both swing and slide open, a driver’s seat that moves laterally to customize interior packaging, a luggage shelf that brings packages to you and a so-called micro pergola roof that can be either opaque or transparent depending on the driver’s wishes.
Buick going to launch two new cars
Buick is all primed up to launch two new cars: a new crossover and a plug-in hybrid. The crossover will seat five and hit the markets in 2010 and the hybrid will be a successor to the Saturn Vue plug-in which never took off.
The crossover will use GM’s cutting-edge technology and fresh sheetmetal and be smaller than the Enclave. The gas-powered model will have direct-injection engines, a 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter V6.
Spy shots: Buick is working on a new small car
Under the heavy disguise is a small front-wheel drive sedan by Buick, that will very likely be called Excelle. This baby Buick will share its Delta II platform with Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Astra.
Rumor is that it will go on sale in U.S. and China earliest in 2011.
