Buick is all primed up to launch two new cars: a new crossover and a plug-in hybrid. The crossover will seat five and hit the markets in 2010 and the hybrid will be a successor to the Saturn Vue plug-in which never took off.
The crossover will use GM’s cutting-edge technology and fresh sheetmetal and be smaller than the Enclave. The gas-powered model will have direct-injection engines, a 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter V6.
The hybrid will have a 3.6-liter V6 flex-fuel engine which will be able to go 10-15 miles on electricity alone. It will use a modified version of the auto maker’s 2-Mode hybrid system combined with a version of the lithium-ion battery cells and the charging technology used in the Chevy Volt.
GN hopes this use of new technology in new cars will help it retain its place a frontrunner using new technology.
