BMW cancels plans for another performance model

We just reported yesterday that BMW won’t be producing the M1 Hommage concept. Now BMW has also cancelled plans to produce a lighter, sharper and faster CSL version of the E92 M3.

The E93 BMW M3 CSL was supposed to be powered by the same 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 470 horsepower. To save weight, BMW was going to drop the radio, navigation and air-conditioning. A lot of details were supposed to be replaced with carbon to save weight.

According to CAR Magazine. BMW M-Division boss Ludwing Willisch said that automaker has canceled the project since it doesn’t make any business since. They believe there is not enough demand.

We just can’t agree with him. Lot of supercars don’t make sense. Does the Bugatti Veyron make sense? No as they are not making any money of it. But it surely makes a name for the car maker.
Is BMW still the “Ultimate Performance Machine” or not seems to be just a matter of time.

So will the M-Division focus also on greener energies as it was with the M1 Hommage. According to mr. Willisch they will focus their resources on M-version of the X5 and X6 that we have already seen on Nürburgring.
With decreasing SUV sales that makes a lot more less sense than not making another performance M3.

It was going to make its official debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as a 2010 model and go on sale right after that.
