Audi readying S1 Mini fighter

New details are emerging courtesy of Autoexpress about Audi’s compact streetfighter, the S1. Based on the forthcoming A1, the S1 is expected to go up against other hot hatches such as the Cooper Works Mini and the Alfa Romeo Mito GTA, boasting four-wheel drive and a rumored 200hp.

The public got a preview of the car with the A1 Project Quattro pictured here. The car is slated to be the ultimate iteration of the 1 series, heading up Audi’s all new compact range of vehicles.

The car is expected to feature bulging wheel arches filled with 19 inch shoes, an aggressive stance, LED lighting front and back, roof mounted spoiler, and a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine. With some slight tweaking, the output should be in excess of 200hp, but should also be economical.

Audi is hoping to reach 35mpg. The car will receive all the usual S-line accoutrement, including sport seats, flat bottom steering wheel, and aluminum trim throughout. Audi is also toying with the idea of a mobile phone interface that will allow owners to control functions through their mobiles. This was also previewed on the Project Quattro. Look for it sometime after the launch of the A1 in 2010. God willing, it will come to the US, or I may just have to pack my things up and move abroad.
