Audi has a new A3 line up of cars which will be using the 1.6 liter TDI diesel engines. These engines which are 90 hp have a fuel economy of 52.3 mpg and bigger 105 hp engine which gives a fuel economy of 57.4 mpg. The lower hp model reaches speeds of 62 mph in 12.9 seconds and also has slightly higher carbon dioxide emissions.
The bigger hp model uses automatic start/stop system and brake energy regeneration with a smart alternator which adds to the engine braking and charges the battery, making it more environmentally friendly. Both engines will be available in Europe, but the US will have to manage with 2 TDI later this year.
