Honda Insight is a hybrid, so is the Toyota Prius. (note: Toyota is already testing plug-in hybrid in UK).
The upcoming Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in electric car with a range around 40 miles. Even though automakers all plan on building EVs over the next few years Honda does not believe in it.
In a recent interview with Automotive news, Honda R&D chief Masaaki Kato says Honda has no plans to produce an electric car. They will stick to the hybrid at the moment.
Kato feels the energy of lithium-ion batteries is “still too poor for cars,” and only predicts EVs will make up 1% of the vehicle fleet by 2015.
He claims EVs will only be useful as neighborhood runabouts but that to get the performance of an Accord, the car would have to carry 2 tons of battery, a weight he says that is “no good.”
So the cars are different when it comes to power source, but why do they look so identical? Look at the image we put together below:

Especially Insight and Volt look like they have been designed by the same group of people.
